Working With Type
We require that you embed or outline all type in your document. We explain more about how to embed or outline fonts in "Your Specific Workflow." [Workflows]
When using image-editing software, like Adobe Photoshop, type can assume the resolution of the image, leading to low-resolution results on your print job. The simplest way to prevent this is to use a page layout or illustration program (Quark, InDesign, Illustrator, Freehand, etc.) to set your type.
When finalizing your file, be sure to load all the fonts, since missing fonts cannot be embedded or outlined. We recommend using Postscript Type 1 fonts for best results. Please do not use Multiple Master fonts. When using True Type fonts, outline the fonts whenever possible.
Extensis has an excellent paper on Best Practices for Managing Fonts in OS X PDF available for download.
Before approving the proof that we generate, carefully review all the fonts and line endings to ensure that all type has been rendered correctly.
