Mailing Services

Savoirprint offers mailing services on all of our postcard products.

This article can be used as a guideline to answer your questions about how to use this service, and will cover the following points:

How our service works / How to order

You can get pricing and order mailing services online when you place your postcard order. Choose from the mailing service classes that appear in the pull down menu during the order specification step. Our online mailing service price includes:
  • Processing your mailing list (including CASS certification and removal of duplicates)
  • Inkjet addressing
  • Postal presorting for preferred postal rates
  • Postage
  • Drop off at the post office within 2-4 days of the completion date on your printed job

Classes of mailing service

There are two classes of mailing service:

1. First Class Mail has a 1-3 day delivery commitment. Because of the computerized presorting method, there are some restricted areas that must be left unprinted on the mailing side of the card (see Mailing Templates). All postcards that are 4 x 6" and 4.25 x 6" are mailed via First Class.

2. Standard (Bulk) Mail is a less expensive method and has a 200-unit minimum. Most bulk mail is delivered within 6-8 days, and almost all is delivered within a 2- to 8-day time frame. Because of the computerized presorting method, there are restricted areas that must be left unprinted on the mailing side of the card (see Mailing Templates).

How to prepare artwork for mailing

Templates: We provide templates as guidelines on how to prepare your artwork for each postcard size. Presorted mail uses barcodes on the address side of the card, so the areas specified on the templates must be left blank.

Please download the template for your size postcard from the Mailing Templates page in our Help Center.

Indicia: Our indicia is included in the mailing templates. If you wish to use your own indicia or postal permit, please give us a call. Since mail must be dropped off at the post office where the permit originates, there are additional charges for postal drops outside of Oakland, California. For non-profit organizations, please call us at 888-894-2810.

How to prepare your mailing list

Your mailing list may be in the following file formats:
  • .CSV Comma Delimited
  • .ASC ASCII text file
  • .TXT ASCII text file
  • .XLS Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet

We do not sell mailing lists. For help on how to prepare your mailing list, or questions about purchasing mailing lists for marketing purposes, please give us a call at 888-894-2810.

Definition of postal terms

INDICIA
In general, a postal indicia is a marking on a mail piece that shows that the postage has been prepaid by the sender. We provide the artwork for the postal indicia in our downloadable templates (see Mailing Templates). For questions about using your own indicia for mailing with us, please visit our Mailing FAQs page.

CASS Certification
The Coding Accuracy Support Software that we apply to your mailing list will help to vastly improve the accuracy of the addresses on your list. This software corrects most address problems, which saves money on postage. Every mailing list gets checked using this software, at no additional charge.

Clear Space
The area in the lower right of a mailing piece where the address and barcode are printed must be blank or with less than 10% ink density, to ensure machine readability. Our templates show the areas that must be left clear (see Mailing Templates).

Ancillery Service Endorsements (such as Service Requests)
These are usually imprinted directions on a mail piece to tell the Post Office what to do with the piece if it becomes undeliverable, such as: Change Service Requested, Forwarding Service Requested, Return Service Requested and Address Service Requested. These are normally required on First Class Presorted pieces.

Ink Jet Addressing
We use state of the art ink jet technology for accurate addressing and bar coding that meets or exceeds USPS addressing regulations. The ink jet technology that we use can print on jobs that are varnished.

NCOA (National Change of Address)
The NCOA system uses the Post Office database to check for people and businesses that have filed a change of address with the USPS within the last 48 months. We will perform this update on your mailing list automatically, unless you tell us not to. Performing this update can make your mailing list more accurate.
